The Scandinavians adopted the American tradition in the 1930’s – then moved the date to the second Sunday in November to place it six months away from Mother’s Day and boost sales in an otherwise quiet trading period. In Taiwan, Father's Day is celebrated on 8th August for linguistic reasons. The Chinese for eight is 'ba', and dad is 'ba-ba', so the eighth day of the eighth month sounds much like 'daddy'. Father’s Day may never gain quite the popularity of Mother’s Day, yet how lovely that all around the world, we have a day dedicated to the fathers and father figures in our lives.
